This week I am involved with the initial wedding plans for K & K, and I am also preparing to attend a friend’s funeral. It seems these events are at opposite ends of reality’s spectrum but not really. Life on earth is measured by events. Life to life, death is the crossing over from this measured earthly state into eternity and what God has prepared for us there. The number of our given earthly days is not revealed to us, yet knowing this we still vow to love unto death’s parting.
J & J had twenty years of wedded life together, years filled with varying degrees of happiness, parenting, struggle, joy, striving to enter rest, holding each other up, enduring trials, laughter, tears, and growing together in the imperishable truth and promises of God. Until we meet again.
ECCLESIASTES 7: 1-4
A good name is better than fine perfume,
and the day of death better than the day of birth.
2 It is better to go to a house of mourning
than to go to a house of feasting,
for death is the destiny of everyone;
the living should take this to heart.
3 Frustration is better than laughter,
because a sad face is good for the heart.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.
