Woolly Warrier

Woolly bear
why do you growl at me?
We both trudge a familiar path
through the fall to winter’s home.
You will curl into a ball
in the crevice of a rock
or bark’s shielding groove.
I will fight to stay unfurled
in winter’s grip.
We shall both emerge in spring
to a metamorphosis.
